Every two years the United Church gathers as one body to worship, sing, make new friends and connect with long-time friends, and consider resolutions, just to name a few of the things we love the most about General Synod.
In just ten days the first-ever virtual General Synod will open for a similar but different kind of gathering. Rooted in Love is the theme and there will be, as always, speakers and musicians and even a virtual exhibit hall. I know I will miss visiting in person with people I don’t get to see that often. Then again, I’m excited that people who wouldn’t normally be able to afford the plane ticket and hotel room will have an opportunity to experience this special Synod.
Our National Setting leaders have been working hard to prepare and the platform that is being used promises to offer lots of opportunities for many people to participate in this important event.
If you have not already registered, please know it’s not too late. While Synod doesn’t officially begin until July 11, workshops will be presented as early as next week. (Don’t worry, they will be recorded for viewing at your convenience.) If you have questions or are looking for more information, click HERE.
And, please pray for our delegates who have already attended orientations and are clearing their schedules to be as present as possible and soak up all the excitement and energy that is always a part of what it means to be the wider Church gathered as the United Church of Christ.
