Have you heard that there is an organization within the UCC that supports and unites Persons of the African Diaspora in the United Church of Christ?
Yes, there sure is. Whether you are a member of a predominantly African American UCC congregation or a Person of the African Diaspora worshipping at a UCC church, you are already a part of this wonderful organization called United Black Christians.
United Black Christians (UBC) is an officially recognized organization (with voice AND vote) of the United Church of Christ. It represents lay and clergy persons who faithfully minister in the name of Jesus Christ within the more than 290 predominately African American churches in congregations of the UCC. It also represents those Persons of the African Diaspora worshipping at predominantly non-African American churches.
Since the 1960’s, UBC has lived into its mission of advancing the cause of Jesus Christ by providing a prophetic voice for all Persons of the African Diaspora within the United Church of Christ. Over the decades with Christ as our guide, UBC has sought to enhance and to strengthen the whole church through advocacy, ecumenical and worldwide partnerships, and empowerment and training of laity. We have a special focus on developing and equipping Youth and Young Adults for lay and clergy leadership within the church.
Our Programs include:
· Reading and Literacy Programs for Youth
· Administration of the Joseph Evans Pastoral Scholarship Fund
· A weekly National Prayer call: “It’s Prayer Time.”
· Social Justice Advocacy
