Each June, communities across the nation celebrate Pride Month, honoring the history, resilience, and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other LGBTQIA+ people. For many, Pride is a celebration of identity, community, and liberation.
For the church, it is also an opportunity to reflect on God’s expansive love and our call to embody that love in the world.
The Northern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ joins with congregations and communities in celebrating Pride Month as a reminder that every person is created in the image of God and beloved beyond measure. We affirm that God’s love is not limited by gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation. Rather, God’s love invites all people into a covenant of belonging, dignity, and grace.
The United Church of Christ has a long history of advocating for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and justice. From ordaining openly LGBTQIA+ clergy to supporting marriage equality and transgender rights, the UCC has sought to live into Christ’s vision of a community where all are welcomed and valued. Yet our work is not complete. Across our nation, many LGBTQIA+ individuals continue to face discrimination, violence, isolation, and barriers to full participation in society and faith communities.
Pride Month calls us beyond affirmation toward action. It challenges us to ask how we are creating spaces where LGBTQIA+ people are not merely welcomed but empowered to lead, serve, and flourish. It invites us to examine our ministries, our language, our policies, and our practices through the lens of God’s justice and love. As people of faith, we believe that diversity is not a problem to be solved but a gift to be celebrated. The rich variety of human experiences and identities reflects the creativity of God’s creation. When we honor one another’s stories and journeys, we more fully glimpse the breadth of God’s presence among us.
This Pride Month, may we recommit ourselves to being communities of extravagant welcome. May we listen deeply to the experiences of LGBTQIA+ siblings, advocate for justice where inequities remain, and bear witness to a God whose love knows no boundaries.
Together, we proclaim a simple yet transformative truth: every person is beloved, every voice matters, and everyone has a place in God’s unfolding story.
As the Apostle Paul reminds us, “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians
3:28). In that spirit, we celebrate Pride Month with gratitude, hope, and a renewed commitment to building a just world for all.
May our churches continue to be places where love is lived boldly, justice is pursued faithfully, and every person can know they are welcomed exactly as God created them to be.

Beautifully said, MeLinda! Thank you. Rock on.
