At Annual Gathering in June we announced the Clergy and Church Vitality Grant Fund that was established with funds from the sale of the Sacramento Faith Community Church. While our hope is to increase this endowment to over $1 million and then look to fund larger projects, even new church starts, the current balance in the fund provides enough money from interest for us to offer several smaller grants each year.
Grants are offered to authorized ministers and local congregations for the purposes of revitalization. Continuing education grants for authorized ministers will promote learning and health and vitality and grants to churches are for programs that enhance the vitality of the church and its ministry. Grants will be considered twice each year, in January and in July with December 31 and June 30 deadlines respectively. You can find details and the application form here.
One of the things that is so apparent to me as I travel around the Conference is that our churches are doing amazing work. In our broken world where every day there seems to be a new tragedy or act of violence or natural (and not so natural) disaster that has captured our attention, the witness and work of our churches are vital. We reach out into our communities to offer Christ’s light, the presence of the Holy Spirit and God’s strength to the places and people who need it the most. And, sometimes, we need some help to do that work. Our hope and prayer is that this Endowment Fund will be an opportunity for us to partner together for this important and vital work.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We look forward to continuing God’s work in the spirit of our covenant together.
