Traditions, Faith & Order of the United Church of Christ

“Traditions, Faith & Order of the United Church of Christ” is an opportunity to study the formation of the UCC, our way of organization and decision-making, support and accountability for professional ministers, and our structures of mission and ministry in the world.

This course is particularly appropriate for:

  • Local Church moderators or governing board members
  • Association moderators or governing board members
  • Future ministerial leaders
  • Current leaders who want a refresher on UCC covenantal polity in light of the 2018 Manual on Ministry and General Synod actions since 2015

“Traditions, Faith & Order of the United Church of Christ” is taught by Daniel Ross-Jones using the same curriculum he uses when he teaches the course for students at Pacific School of Religion. If ever you’ve had an interest in taking a seminary-level exploration of our denomination, now is the time!

The course format will include recorded video lectures for viewing, readings (including some required books), online discussion, and two live “group meetings” on Zoom. Except for the two group meetings, the course can be completed self-paced.

Members in Discernment, individuals considering Privilege of Call, or candidates for Dual Standing or Ordained Ministerial Partner Standing, may fulfill the requirements of the Committee on Ministry by satisfactorily completing this online course and an integrative project. They will then be issued a Certificate of Completion which they can provide to COM-A (or the Committee on Ministry in a different Association). In order to receive a Certificate of Completion, all work, including the integrative project, must be complete no later than June 15; there will be no refund if work is not completed and a Certificate is not issued.

If a Certificate of Completion is required, the fee is $500. If taken for personal enrichment and no certificate is required, the fee is $75.
